A 60-year-old man has been slapped with a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after stabbing his wife with scissors.

Alfred Sefelani Mudanga allegedly stabbed his wife, Kgakgamatso Mudanga, with a pair of scissors on the chest. Mudanga appeared at the Village Magistrate's Court before Magistrate Tshepo Thedi following the incident.

His charge sheet reads, “The accused person, Alfred Sefelani Mudanga, on or about July 21, 2023, at or near Peo Nursery School in Block 7, Gaborone, unlawfully assaulted Kgakgamatso Mudanga by stabbing her with a pair of scissors on the chest thereby causing her actual bodily harm.” According to information The Monitor gathered, the man had visited his wife at her workplace where a fight between the two ensued. During the argument, it is said the man then stabbed her with the scissors.

In court, it also became apparent that the wife has previously reported him and was granted a restraining order against her husband. The latest was the third restraining order she had put against him. On account of this, the presiding magistrate extended the man’s remand. If found guilty, the man faces imprisonment not exceeding five years with or without corporal punishment. The case continues.
