A tragic mechanical accident at Jwaneng diamond mine has killed an operative. Debswana confirmed this through a press statement released this morning.

The fatal incident occurred yesterday (Monday). It is said that the machine involved in the loss of life is a crane and drill rig which is mainly used in open pit mining to blast holes. Investigations are currently on-going to establish the specifics of the incident.

“It is with regret and deep sadness that we inform you of a tragic incident involving a crane and drill rig at our Jwaneng mine operations where an employee of one our business partners, was fatally injured on the morning of Monday June 17, 2024,” the statement read.
