President of the Botswana Association of Tribal Land Authorities (BATLA), Kgang Kgang, has said the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs will achieve its 100,000 allocations target this month.

He told The Monitor over the weekend that they have already reached 95% of their goal thanks to teamwork from officers to the ministry. “We are only left with a few plots to reach our target. Plot allocation waiting lists will soon become a thing of the past,” Kgang said in an interview on Sunday. “This was achieved through the ministry’s first quarter and we believe more and more plots will be allocated during second and third quarter allocations.” Furthermore, he said setting targets helps the ministry achieve its objectives and motivates workers to prioritise their customers, as demonstrated in their ministry.

He said the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs through various Land Boards has already allocated 99,500 residential plots. In addition, he said the ministry is working tirelessly to attain the 100,000 plots allocation target that was set by President Mokgweetsi Masisi in June 2022. Moreover, he said that Batswana who had been waiting for a long time for their plots are pleased, as they will finally have a roof over their heads. He also revealed that President Masisi will hand over the 100,000th plot to the allottee on June 11, 2024, in Kanye. He continued: “The 100,000th residential plot milestone achievement allocation will be preceded over by a ceremony to mark the 99,900th plot allocation in Mochudi and will be handed over by the Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila on Friday of June 7, 2024. He said the ministry anticipates reaching the 100,000 target during the first week of June 2024, which will be a significant and historic achievement.

Additionally, he said Land Boards had set targets to attain the 100,000 target, and six out of the 12 Main Land Authorities being Chobe, Rolong, Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Kgatleng, and Tati. He said other regions that will continue to allocate plots include Kweneng and Lentsweletau, amongst others.
