A 21-year-old man shot and killed himself with his parents' gun at Block 8 in Gaborone on Friday (December 29).

According to Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKA) station commander, Superintendent Mmoloke Sebako, the incident happened at the parents’ house. The deceased originates from the Kgatleng area.

“The deceased was staying in Tsholofelo East. “He then went to his parents’ house in Block 8 where he found the gun and committed suicide. “His lifeless body was discovered by his parents when they returned home. “We do not have information on how he accessed the gun, but we suspect that as a boy child, his parents had informed him about everything that they own including the gun.” Sebako said.

He said the police are yet to establish the motive for the suicide because there was no note left by the deceased. He added that this is an isolated incident in his area.

Meanwhile, Sebako said while his policing area has been generally quiet over the festive period, they registered minor road incidents. Regarding the New Year, Sebako said the plan is to deploy police officers in areas such as Mmopane, Block 8 and Gaborone North.
