FRANCISTOWN: The Maun police are still searching for an unidentified man who tricked a Standard Six student by offering her mangoes and money then allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Maun Acting Station Commander, Kgakgamatso Koboyatshwene, said they are still searching for an unknown man who allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl after promising to give her mangoes and money.

He said the incident took place in Botshabelo ward on Wednesday afternoon. On the fateful day, Koboyatshwene said the Standard Six student went home after school to change from her school uniform to ordinary clothes and have her lunch.

He said after that she visited some of her friends. “On her way to visit her friends she met an unknown man who then tricked her. The man told the young girl to accompany him to his place so that he could give her some mangoes and money.

On their way, the unknown man allegedly dragged the girl to the close by bush and sexually abused her,” he added. After sexually abusing the young girl, the unknown suspect then accompanied the girl back to Botshabelo ward where she resides, he elaborated. Koboyatshwene indicated that the suspect, who is still on the run, then threatened the girl to never say a word about what transpired or else he would do the unthinkable to her.

He said the girl then told her mother and the incident was reported to the police. He appealed with the public to help them with any information that could be helpful to their investigation so that the perpetrator could be arrested.
