FRANCISTOWN: Police in Gerald Estate are investigating an incident in which a Prisons officer in his fifties allegedly hanged himself to death.

Confirming the incident , Gerald Station Commander Kedibonye Kula said that the public servant working at Prisons allegedly took his own life yesterday (Tuesday).

According to Kula , they received a report at around 10 am that someone had threatened to commit suicide. She stated that following the report , they rushed to the scene where they found the man hanging motionless. "A post-mortem will be performed to determine the cause of death, and investigations into this matter are still ongoing," she continued. Kula was concerned about the suicide cases in her policing area. She stated that since the beginning of the year they have registered four cases of people who took their own lives. She further advised members of the public to always seek professional help when they are struggling to deal with issues because taking one’s life is not a solution to such matters Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports stated that the prison officer allegedly took his own life wearing a church garment.
