"The two passengers from the Toyota Vitz were certified dead upon arrival at Mahalapye Hospital and we are yet to establish their age. The accident occurred at Mogononyane about 5km north of Dibete village along the A1 road. The driver of the Toyota Vitz, a 41-year-old man sustained serious injuries and he is currently fighting for his life at Mahalapye Hospital. The 36-year-old driver of Audi vehicle escaped the accident with minor injuries and he was treated and released that same night," he said.

Ranku further stated that the cause of accident is yet to be established but he noted that their preliminary investigations show that one of drivers might have been attempting to overtake, which resulted in a head-on collision. He said one of the vehicle was heading north from south and the other was heading south from north.

"I am pleading with drivers to be careful, especially when driving at night to avoid accidents that have the likelihood of claiming people's lives. Sadly, the fatal accident occured hours after I had congratulated motorists for the driving cautiously," Ranku said.
