Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Phandu Tombola Chaha Skelemani, Your Excellency the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, Your Honour the Vice-President, Honourable Slumber Tsogwane, The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Pono Moatlhodi, who is also Member of Parliament for Tonota, Leader of the Opposition, Honourable Dithapelo Keorapetse, who is also Member of Parliament for Selebi-Phikwe West, Honourable Members of Parliament, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen.

1). Honourable Speaker, we are thankful for being given this opportunity to address this august Assembly as Bakalanga for a fair constitutional dispensation.

2). We are here today because when an announcement was made in 2019 that there would be a comprehensive constitutional review, we started engaging to crystallise what we wanted to achieve out of this exercise. Our grievances have always been there, but we have always held out hoping that something like this would come along. So, we had to grasp this with both hands.

Women in Politics caucus NGO, a welcome development

In the 2014 General Election, women who stood for parliamentary elections were a mere 17 out of a total of 192 aspirants, and sadly the number dropped to 11 out of 210 parliamentary aspirants in the 2019 General Election.
