The North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will headline Matchday 4 of the 2024-25 Premier League season, with major fireworks expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs and Arsenal will meet at mid-afternoon on Sunday 15 September for a clash which will help to shape the early-season mood for both teams – and, of course, give one set of supporters bragging rights at least until their next meeting in January 2025.

“It’s just about making sure you embrace the challenge and try to tackle it in the way that got us into this position in the first place,” said Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who will be under pressure to see his side put up a strong fight against the Gunners after shipping four points to them last season.

“We understand the importance of being at home in these kinds of games to not let our biggest rival win in the biggest derby for us,” the Australian added. “We understand the consequences of that. I’m not going to dictate how our fans feel and what they feel is important.”

The round opens with a potential thriller between Southampton and Manchester United at St Mary’s Stadium early on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to make a statement of intent after the international break, while the mid-afternoon matches are headlined by Manchester City hosting Brentford.

The Bees have upset the Citizens on home soil in the past, but Pep Guardiola’s charges will be hungry to keep up their momentum and boast a “scary” spearhead in Erling Haaland.

“I like when he runs a lot. I like when he presses like an animal. I like it. It helps to score a goal,” said Guardiola of the Norwegian striker. “When you are connected defensively, you are connected offensively. His body language... imagine a central defender has the ball and he makes a sprint with this body and legs moving. It's scary.”

Saturday also features two evening matches, with Aston Villa favoured to take three points at home to Everton, before Bournemouth look to upset Chelsea on the South Coast, while Sunday – aside from the North London derby – also sees Wolverhampton Wanderers hosting Newcastle United at Molineux Stadium.
