In a groundbreaking year, Showmax has released 60 Originals to date, solidifying its reputation as a platform committed to local storytelling and production excellence. Flawsome remains a standout title, and the platform’s reality franchise has excelled, both in local and international markets, with Big Brother Naija and The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOL) shining as some of Showmax’s best-performing shows.

In the movie category, action and comedy reign supreme, with major hits like Expend4bles, Fast X, Four Kids & It, Girls Trip, Mafia Mama, Mr Bones 3: Son of Bones, Retribution, The Beekeeper, The Equalizer 3 are leading the charge. Showmax currently has the three biggest hits of last year – Barbie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Oppenheimer, which won 2024’s Motion Picture of the Year Oscar.

On the international front, shows like the second season of House of the Dragon saw high viewership numbers when it launched mid-June. International series binges have also been driven by The Cleaning Lady, Game of Thrones, Power Book II: Ghost, Halo, Ted, The Winter King, and Special Ops: Lioness.

For younger audiences, Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken and Knuckles emerged as the top kids' shows of the quarter, while true crime series Catch Me a Killer also performed well and the genre’s enthusiasts were just as captivated by the documentary Tracking Thabo Bester, which set new documentary viewership records and truly showcased Showmax’s diverse genre offerings.

Afrikaans viewers had a standout quarter, with hits like Trompoppie, Koek, and Wyfie resonating well with local audiences.
