Basketball team gets rude awakening in Mozambique

Botswana got a rude awakening at the ongoing FIBA Under-16 Championship for Women in Maputo, Mozambique after succumbing to humiliating defeats in the opening three matches. The girls started the campaign with a 116-6 mauling from Mali before succumbing 74-7 to Angola. The third match was a 106-2 massacre by Ivory Coast.

The result mean Botswana is out of contention for a place at the FIBA Under-17 World Championships for Women.

Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) public relations officer, James Kalebwe said the whole idea of sending the team to Maputo was to gauge its progress.
