Bondo has made the cut

Joshua Bondo’s wait for a first ever appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations finals is over after he made the cut for next month’s tournament in Gabon. Bondo is the only official to make the list from Botswana after first assistant referee Oamogetse Godisamang was omitted.

Godisamang had, in 2015, become the first official to make the AFCON finals cut. Bondo has been rewarded for his tireless efforts, which underlines his status as one of the continent’s best whistle man. He has handled a number of high profile tournaments, with only the AFCON finals, the missing piece on the continent, in his glittering career.

He joins 16 other referees from across the continent for the January 17 to February 4 tournament.
