Dube Wins Mascom Cycling Race

Zimbabwean cyclist, Nkulumo Dube won the second edition of the Mascom Cycling Challenge held at the Airport Junction yesterday. The 120km race started at the Airport Junction mall, with cyclists doing 60km along the A1 highway, before making a turn at Mosaditshwene and back to the mall.

Dube, who completed the race in 3:00:08, told Monitor Sport that he felt great to have done so well considering that he did not perform well in the last race he competed in. He said he did not encounter any problems on the way. Dube said his team members also assisted him in the race. “The guy who was leading was my team mate. The idea was not to chase him. I just kept my cool so that others can push him and he got tired. I took advantage of that. I was not physically fit because I have been sick,” said Dube. Lulu Telekelo of Jwaneng finished second and Amogelang Thwabi of BR Railways came third.   Tsela Ryders cyclist, Anouk Van Der Geest was the first woman to cross the line in a time of 3:00:16.

Van Der Geest was among the leaders, and at one stage, she was ahead of the whole pack but said the competition was tough.
