No Botswana Games again

The biannual Botswana Games that were postponed last year will not take place due to a congested sports calendar, Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) acting chief executive officer Thato Kgosimore has said.

The games were postponed to channel energy and funds to the Africa Youth Games that the country is hosting in May. Kgosimore said after a careful consideration they realised that hosting the games this year would still not be possible.

Following the Africa Youth Games young athletes will also compete in the SCSA Under-20 games billed for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in December and Kgosimore said holding the Botswana Games would be too much for local athletes.  The Botswana Games will instead be held in December 2015.  The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) conceptualised the idea of the games in 2005 to have a national multi-sport event.  The games are used to prepare Batswana athletes of 19 years of age and under for international multi-sport competitions. They are also meant to give the sport administrators an opportunity to practice for hosting mega international events.
