SELEBI-PHIKWE: The inaugural Selebi-Phikwe women’s football league, which was slated to start over the weekend, has been postponed to next month to pave way for the country’s golden jubilee celebrations.

Selebi-Phikwe Regional Football Association chairman, Barulaganye Moloi told Mmegi Sport the postponement follows a directive from the Botswana Football Association (BFA) that all the league fixtures should be suspended to enable players to freely participate in the 50th Independence activities. He added that the postponement also affects the Under-15 youth league whose aim is to encourage youth development at club level that was supposed to run parallel to the women’s league.

In addition, Moloi said some of the teams in the region would take part in the Independence soccer tournament organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.
