On hold: The women's league has been suspended due to the non-payment of referees fees

It is now three weeks since the women's soccer league was put on ice owing to outstanding referee allowances. The league started 21 September 2013, and only the first games were played after referees made it clear that they would not continue with the league if they were not paid their dues from last year.

Women Football Committee (WFC) treasurer Oaitse Moeti says they have been in talks with the Botswana Football Association (BFA), which always promises that the payments will be made. He could not say how much the referees are owed save to say that it is a lot of money.

Moeti said the WFC does not have money, but they will consider looking for funds elsewhere if the BFA takes forever to pay the referees. "We cannot get alternative referees because it will look like we are condoning non-payment of referees," he said.  He said the debt accumulated last year when a standing committee ran the league. The running of the women football is yet to be wholly handed over to the WFC. BFA Referees Manager Dintwe Dintwe would not be drawn into discussing the matter.
