Questions to answer: Mogotsakgotla faces disciplinary action

Suspended Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) vice president-technical, Othusitse Mogotsakgotla will appear before a disciplinary committee next week.

Mogotsakgotla was suspended over allegations of misconduct this week. According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, Mogotsakgotla failed to declare that he had a criminal record when he was voted into office.

After he was selected as manager for AUSC Region 5 Games boxing team, the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) did a background check on all the managers and it was established that Mogotsakgotla had a criminal record, which saw him being barred from travelling to Malawi.

“Sometimes I feel the suspension is beyond the criminal record, it is about personalities that the executive committee failed to manage. However, Mogotsakgotla is a difficult person and there was never an agreement whenever there was a technical meeting. But there is nothing that can be done at this stage, the decision has been taken,” a source said.

It is alleged that even during the BoBA National Championships Mogotsakgotla took arbitrary decisions, which compromised the tournament. BoBA spokesperson, Moitshepi Nkabiti confirmed the suspension and they find it suitable. “I am not going to divulge what he did. We have not expelled him and we cannot reveal anything at this point.

We do not want to be seen influencing the disciplinary process. We do not want to interfere with the investigations. We want him to go there and explain himself to the disciplinary committee.

He has been temporarily relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” he said. Nkabiti said it was a well know fact that Mogotsakgotla was dropped from the Region 5 Games team due to a criminal record but cannot state that it was the only issue that led to his suspension. “We are looking at the strength of the offence hence we felt the need for suspension.

Any other decision will be determined by the outcome of the hearing. For now, he will not do his duties as vice president,” he said. BoBA president Gilbert Khunwane said Mogotsakgotla is expected to appear before the disciplinary committee next week.
