Mochudi Centre Chiefs have been dealt a heavy blow after the Kgatleng Land Board gave the company, Mochudi Centre Chiefs PTY Ltd the green light to develop a plot, which has been at the centre of a dispute between the two parties.

The plot includes the River Plate ground, which has been Magosi’s home and training ground for years. The resolution, taken this past week set aside Mochudi Sub Land Board’s decision taken in April this year, which directed the company to halt developments on the disputed plot pending the resolution of the dispute.

However the Kgatleng Land Board has since resolved that the company has the right to the plot. The board also says the transfer of the plot from the society to the company was lawfully effected on November 2 2021, prior to the submission of the society’s objection on August 10 the following year. The society has since been given 30 days to appeal the decision to the Land Tribunal. Speaking to Mmegi sport yesterday, club spokesperson, Victor Kobe said they will first engage with the general membership and map the way forward on the matter. Kobe also said they tried to negotiate with the company representatives on the matter only for them to renege from the negotiations.

Meanwhile Kobe also said they are still waiting for a response from the Botswana Football League (BFL) after questioning the legitimacy of the newly appointed BFL board. In the letter written to the BFL and the Botswana Football Association (BFA), the Kgatleng giants say last week’s BFL general assembly was an “unconstitutional gathering” and demand that proceedings of the said meeting be nullified. The club has threatened to report what they call ‘malpractice’ to FIFA. Yesterday, Kobe told Mmegi Sport that they are still awaiting the response. “We are still awaiting BFL to respond to the write up. The next step will be determined by their response,” he said.

Firstly, the government must play its part in facilitating this transition. The role of Kgosi isn't merely ceremonial; it carries substantial responsibilities and influence within the community. Therefore, the government must ensure that all legal and procedural requirements are met to support Khama's return. This includes providing the necessary resources and administrative support to uphold the integrity of the Kgotla and its...
