Gaolaolwe, Kgaswane back in Zebras’ fold

Zebras’ interim coach, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote has beefed up his squad ahead of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Madagascar.

The two sides meet in the first leg of the second round of CHAN qualifiers this Saturday at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown. The Zebras are just two matches away from reaching their maiden CHAN finals.

Mpote has included Township Rollers’ defender, Mosha Gaolaolwe and midfielder, Mpho Kgaswane of Gaborone United (GU). The duo returns to the squad after missing the COSAFA Cup and the first round of the CHAN qualifiers.

Mpote has also recalled GU midfielder, Lebogang Ditsele and Orapa United duo, Mbatshi Elias and Gofaone Mabaya while the gaffer has once again overlooked other Township Rollers players.

The arrival of seasoned players into the Zebras’ squad has brought casualties with some of the ‘rookies’ who debuted in the senior team recently missing out this time around.

Extension Gunners’ Vincent Lekoba and GU's Omphile Ramoagi have been left out while Mogoditshane Fighters’ Tshepo Keselebale had his first Zebras call up. It is much a shorter route to the CHAN finals after a number of nations pulled out of the competition as teams now need two rounds of qualifiers to book a place in the tournament to be held in Algeria. The Zebras eliminated Eswatini in the first round of the qualifiers through an away goal rule.

The Team List:

Goalkeepers: Goitseone Phoko (GU), Lesenya Malapela (Orapa United), Ryan Brown (Galaxy)

Defenders: Doctor David (Galaxy), Mothusi Johnson, Alphord Velaphi, Thato Kebue (GU), Mosha Gaolaolwe (Rollers), Tebogo Kopelang (Systems), Thobo Seeleko (Morupule Wanderers)

Midfielders: Tawana Mbakile (Systems), Gape Thibedi, Lebogang Ditsele, Mpho Kgaswane (GU), Tlamelo Kolagano (Orapa United), Thabang Khuduga, Gofaone Mabaya (Holy Ghost), Shawn Theron (Notwane)

Forwards: Godfrey Tauyatsalwa, Thero Setsile (GU), Baokeditswe Talane (Gunners), Resobaka Thatanyane (Galaxy), Tshepo Kesebale (Mogoditshane Fighters), Mbatshi Elias (Orapa United)
