The Gaborone Region Women's League Division 1 champions, Gaborone United (GU), have one foot in the DTCB Women's Championships finals but face a stern test over the weekend.

The Reds take on Zodiac Collabo Girls in the last round of the games of the South Block qualifiers to be played on Sunday afternoon at the Lobatse Sports Complex. GU is in pole position to seal the qualifiers as they won two of the three playoff games. The team sits on six points and commands a massive goal difference as they scored 12 in two games and are yet to concede. Last weekend, GU kicked off the qualifiers with a 9-0 win against Royal Fighters before a 3-0 win over BDF XI. Zodiac, on the other hand, lost once in the two games as they sit on three points just behind GU.

The Lobatse-based side would hope home ground works to their advantage as they need a win by a large margin over GU. Zodiac have a two-goal difference and needs to score 11 against GU without conceding. The Camo Girls are also not entirely out of the race as they are tied with Zodiac on three points but have an inferior goal margin. However, theirs is a rather difficult task. BDF XI will take on Royal Fighters at the Lobatse Town Council Stadium and will need to score at least 15 goals and hope Zodiac beat GU by a lesser margin. The two games will kick off at 3pm. The winner of the weekend games will become the third debutant in the DTCB Championships finals. Tawana Top Girls and Makgabz Girls have won the Northern and Western Blocks, respectively. Only Granada Wanderers have qualified for the national finals for a third consecutive time. The women's game has seen a significant increase in participation in recent years as in 2021 as many as 54 teams were playing in the regional leagues in only five of the 17 regions. In 2024, 14 regions are playing women's football with 3, 300 registered players.
