Owed: Gunners is in discussions with Bafana over the debt

Extension Gunners interim chairperson, Bonno Ngwamotsoko is confident the club will be able to meet the 45-day deadline set by FIFA for the club to have paid their defender, Desire Bafana, the P400,000 owed.

On February 20, FIFA gave Gunners 45 days to pay Bafana his salary arrears or the Lobatse side risk a transfer ban.

Bafana approached the mother body to intervene in his bid to force his employers to pay. Ngwamotsoko said they are negotiating with the player and are hopeful of reaching a solution. "We are closing the matter with Bafana, it is just that he is not feeling well," Ngwamotsoko said.

"But we will have a resolution with him," he added.

As a result of Bafana's illness, negotiations are on hold, but will resume as soon as the player is back on his feet, Ngwamotsoko said. He was, however, unwilling to disclose the nature of the discussions. "I am not in any state right now to reveal anything regarding the resolutions as we are still engaging with the player and he has not agreed to anything," Ngwamotsoko said.

He, however, said what they have put on the table is not what Bafana could easily turn down, which makes them confident the player will sign on the dotted lines and agree to the terms.

Bafana is not the only player owed by the club as Gunners has been struggling with a lack of funds. Players were last paid in February when the club received a grant from the Botswana Football League. Meanwhile, Ngwamotsoko said the club will soon release a press statement on the current crisis as well as announce new committee members who have been co-opted after the departure of some office bearers.
