The eighth edition of the tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday at the Babusi Hall in Gaborone. The two-day event also honoured local sensation, Reneilwe Lekorwe, giving him the tournament naming rights as he became the only third athlete to achieve the feat. Clash of Titans, organised by Smash Maniacs Table Tennis Club, further attracted players from abroad and they proved bar above the local paddlers. South African sensation, Ruan Scholtz proved a problem for the locals over the two days. The youngster bagged a gold in the junior male and a silver medal in the senior male Clash of Titans.
He began his trophy hunt on Saturday afternoon as he reached the junior boys’ final at the expense of local lad, Tinashe Dzvaka, to set up an exciting final against top ranked local junior, Lekorwe. The pair is not strangers to each other and were a year ago partners as they won a silver medal in the 2024 Gauteng Open Championship’s junior male doubles event. Over the weekend, the two did look like foes than friends, serving thrilling final. The South African, despite Lekorwe’s effort, proved to be a tougher opponent as he won the final tie to take the Clash of Titans title down south. Another Scholtz in Ruane, also bagged the junior girls Singles trophy. The siblings completed a double in the tournament as Ruane beat Boitlamo Nkele in the final match. In the senior men’s singles, the title went to west Africa as Omoniyi Adedotun overcame Scholtz in the final. Bakang Maloka and Tiro Lesomo had gone the furthest in the local contingent as despite their spirited challenge, bowed out in the semi finals. Rebatenne carried the locals hope and she delivered the women’s title in an all local final.
