The National Stadium will be closed for the next four months for renovation.
The Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC) announced through a press statement yesterday that the temporary closure of the National Stadium is to allow for the needed renovations, particularly on the race track. As per the BNSC, the track that has been in use for the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) events has now passed its time. "The BNSC is pleased to announce the refurbishment of the athletics track at the National Stadium, an essential upgrade as the current track has reached the end of its operational lifespan," the BNSC reported. The BNSC further stated that the contract has already been awarded to a company that is ready to start as soon as possible.
"The facility has been officially handed over to the contractor who is set to commence work immediately," the BNSC stated. The project is slated to run from December 4, 2024, until next year March 2025. The BNSC pleaded with its stakeholders to remain patient as the Stadium undergoes renovated and promised that its doors will open sooner than they think. "We ask for support during this period as these improvements aim to enhance the quality of sports infrastructure in Botswana," the BNSC pleaded. As things stand, the developments will be only for the race track not for the football aspects thus meaning the Stadium will continue not to meet CAF requirements for the Zebras.
