The marathon coordinator, Botshelo Nthaga, told MmegiSport this week that the Sir Seretse Khama Commemoration Marathon is more than just a sporting event. He said it is a tribute to the country’s founding president whilst also presenting both business and sporting benefits for the area.
He urged companies across Botswana and beyond to lend a hand in the race and embrace the spirit of unity and progress embodied by Sir Seretse Khama. The Sir Seretse Khama Commemoration Marathon will feature the 5km, 10km, and 21km race categories inviting runners from diverse backgrounds to participate.
“This inclusivity is a reflection of Sir Seretse Khama’s commitment to bringing people together, irrespective of their differences. As we lace up our running shoes and gather in Serowe, we honour a leader who championed equality, democracy, and national unity,” Nthaga said. He noted that sponsoring the Sir Seretse Khama Commemoration Marathon is an opportunity for companies to align themselves with these noble values. He said sponsorship not only supports a high-profile event but also underscores a commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
“Businesses that invest in this marathon will gain visibility amongst a broad audience, enhance their brand reputation, and demonstrate a shared commitment to the principles Sir Seretse Khama stood for,” he noted. Nthaga further said the marathon is not merely a physical challenge as he said it is a symbolic journey that mirrors the path of resilience and unity that Sir Seretse Khama charted for Botswana. “By sponsoring this event, companies can help ensure that his legacy is honoured and remembered by future generations. It is an opportunity to invest in the social fabric of Botswana, promoting health, wellness, and community spirit,” he said. Nthaga said the organisers have availed platforms such as the logo placement on promotional materials, marathon merchandise, and race bibs for the potential corporate sponsors.
He said visibility and positive association with such a significant event offer a substantial return on investment for participating companies. Moreover, Nthaga noted that the marathon is expected to draw participants and spectators from across the country, providing an excellent platform for businesses to engage with potential customers and clients. “The event will foster a sense of community and collective achievement, qualities that resonate strongly with consumers and employees alike,” he said.
