Rakhale PIC: KICK-OFF

Township Rollers may have just ‘shut’ the winter transfer window period with the acquisition of South African, Thabo Rakhale. Late Tuesday evening, Popa announced the signing of the former Orlando Pirates’ dribbling wizard on the club’s social media platforms.

“Township Rollers is pleased to announce the signing of South African winger, Thabo Rakhale,” part of the statement from the club reads. Popa has the Botswana Premier League marquee signing of the 2023/2024 season as rivals trail behind.

Rakhale has received abundant ‘Blue love’ as per social media activity. Observers have noticed an increase of more than 3,000 followers on Facebook as the announcement received more than 10,000 reactions, 2,400 comments and close to 900 shares in 12 hours. Rakhale was reported to have rejected Rollers more than once this window but the club has landed their man.

He has played for, amongst others, Chippa United, Sekhukhune United, and Pirates. Rakhale is Popa’s seventh signing of the seasons as he joins Sphamandla Sangweni, Obonwe Maome, Tapiwa Sepatela, Godfrey Tauyatswala, Letlhogonolo Chenjela, and Omphile Vissage as the new faces in the team. Rakhale and Sangweni join central midfielder, Shaun Gcumeni as part of the three-member South African contingent at the club. It is now over to league rivals as Popa sends early warning signs ahead of the start of the new season.
