Tebogo Sebego has left the door open for his possible return as a candidate in this year's Botswana Football Association (BFA) presidential elections.

Sebego is tipped to challenge the incumbent, Maclean Letshwiti. However, the former president told MmegiSport on the side lines of the Botswana Football League (BFL) shareholders meeting in Palapye last week that there were other factors to consider before he makes a final decision. "I have run for the BFA presidency and lost on two occasions and I thought maybe it’s not something for me. I have been persuaded by some people to run, but I have to consult my family. I don't think my wife will agree and even if she agrees, I don't know if my team that I used to work with is still interested in me... whether they see me as a capable leader, I don't know," Sebego said.

He said the focus at the moment is to do the best he can for the BFL where he was recently chosen as the interim chairperson. This was before an address by BFA president, Letshwiti on Monday who announced that the BFL will run without a board. The shareholders, Letshwiti said, will run the league through the BFL secretariat with fresh elections of a new board due at the end of the season. The BFA is expected to hold its election between August and October. Letshwiti will reportedly run for a third term, while Sebego is seen as a challenger together with BFA second vice president, Moakaneng Bontshetse. "We have other capable people who might be interested in contesting and do better than me. We have the current president, maybe he wants to run again. But for me, I am still to make a determination if I am still a suitable candidate. I have lost twice, maybe I am not suitable after-all," Sebego said.

The BFA elections have attracted interest and have proved divisive in the past. The recent fall-out within the BFL could have added fuel to the fire.
