The Botswana Premier League will not start this weekend as scheduled, the Botswana Football has announced. This is the second time in as many weeks that the league has been postponed after it was scheduled to start on September 21.

The big Gaborone derby featuring Township Rollers and Gaborone United was due to be the highlight of the opening week, but fans will have to wait until October for the start of the season. In a statement, the BFL said "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to inform the public that the commencement of the 2024/2025 season has to be postponed yet again by another week," the statement reads. The BFL said it was on 'bended knees' apologizing to the new Botswana Football Association (BFA) leadership led by Tariq Babitseng. "It is on bended knee that we apologize to the new leadership of the Botswana Football Association for disrupting your plans, so early in your term of office, which potentially taints your deliberate efforts to take Botswana football to another level," BFL said. The league is now expected to begin on October 4.
