The event returns for the second time on April 22 and it will be held in Gaborone with the starting and finishing points at the Three Dikgsoi Monument in the CBD. Speaking to Monitor Sport after the race activation event held at Airport Junction, the marathon co-founder Moagi Madisa expressed his delight to the guardian's efforts to registering their kids, alluding that without their participation the marathon will find it difficult to have participants. Madisa said the organisers have reached just over 60% of the targeted 500 participants with just over a month ahead of the event. "We are glad that in our second year we have seen growth in terms of numbers. The parents are forthcoming and it's a positive sign of success of the marathon. Last year’s edition stood at just over 300 and so far this year by look of requests and inquiries, our target of 500 will be achievable. This marathon enables the kids from different backgrounds to come together, interact and play together to understand about physical activity and fitness. It is also a philanthropic exercise where the kids actually play a role in uplifting other underprivileged kids somewhere in the country through their ticket fare,” he said.
Madisa further said depending on the costing of the event, just like last year where they donated brand new school shoes worth P10,000 to Medie Primary School in Kweneng, the oragnising team has proposed to once again to lend a hand to the community. "Amongst our reasons to increase the numbers is also to be able to increase our corporate social responsibility (CSR) intake. In the inaugural edition, we managed to buy brand new school shoes and this year we also want to add school books as we take the education of the next generation very seriously. The marathon also aligns with the national Vision 2036, which promotes prosperity for all. So this is a further assurance as our contribution to building better future leaders,” he said The 2023 Summer Kids Marathon will be officially launched later where all the partners and sponsors will be revealed.
Meanwhile tickets for the race are at P180 for 3-4 years category while those from 5-16 years categories cost P220.
