Swimmer Keitsile leads medal haul in Zambia

Gaamangwe Jr Keitsile was the toast of the local swimmers who recently took part in the CANA Zone IV competition held in Zambia last week. Botswana sent 27 swimmers to Lusaka and the team returned home with 14 medals. Keitsile contributed five to the tally.

The young swimmers, between the ages of 11 and 17 brought home four gold, seven silver and three bronze medals in what was a successful outing. Keitsile was outstanding with a haul of one gold, two silver and one bronze. The Propellers Swimming Club star put on a show at the games, especially in the 100m butterfly where he won a silver medal with a time of 1:00:87 and swam 10s faster than the original record of 1:00:89.

Keitsile, who is not new to the national team having had three appearances, outdid himself on the Zambian tour and was even chosen swimmer of the day for two consecutive days.

He represented the country in the 13 to 14 years category and the future looks bright. The 13-year-old was fresh from excelling in the South Africa National Aquatic Championships that were held in Gqeberha.

Kimberly Ingwe on the other hand was Botswana’s best performing female swimmer. Ingwe, who trains with Darrell Morton School of Swimming in Gaborone, represented Botswana in the 15 to 16 years category. She put on an impressive performance on the tour, which saw her adjudged the overall swimmer of the tour after a haul of four medals.

Nathan Seetso also impressed with three medals in the 13 to 14 years category and the newest member of the team, Melodi Saleshando who participated in the women’s under 12 years category, won a silver medal.
