TAFIC faithful would hope head coach, Elias Chinyemba does not change his magic shirt during their title bid. The Francistown-based side has had the best start to the 2024-2025 FNB Premiership and lead the standings by a point after 11 rounds of league games played. TAFIC continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win over VTM FC in an FNB Premiership game played at VTM Arena on Saturday. Over the opening 11 games, Chinyemba has been spotted on the touchline clad in a checked shirt and the pants to match, raising questions whether there could be some magic in the famous outfit. “My dressing, it gives me luck, it gives me luck,” the Zimbabwean gaffer said to journalists following the weekend’s 2-1 win.
TAFIC had some bit of luck in the opening 30 minutes and survived a penalty after being on the back foot from the whistle. VTM were awarded a penalty on the 22nd minute for a handball. But the team’s leading goalscorer this season, Senatla Molefhe, could only hit the cross bar. Soon after that, TAFIC, with their first ever chance of the day, took the lead as Thatayaone Nkwapa, unmarked in the penalty area, headed home Allen Nyandoro's cross on the 34th minute. Two minutes later, the visitors survived another scare when Thato Mogorosi, inside the box, shot wide with the goal wide open. The two teams headed into the halftime break with the home crowd feeling they could have been ahead in the first 45 minutes. The second half did not produce clear cut chances with VTM remaining on the front foot. The home side missed a number of chances as they recorded a home loss in a tie where they were very dominant. “This was the most difficult game we have played this season.
VTM combine well from the back to the front so I think what we did today and the opponents did not do was to score that goal. It was probably our day, the opponent even missed a penalty and I thought this is the game that we were outplayed in all the 11 games we have played thus far,” said Chinyemba. Over the past weekend in Greater Gaborone, four people tragically lost their lives in separate accidents, a stark reminder of how vulnerable we are on the roads, especially during this busy time of year. The accidents, which claimed the lives of three pedestrians and one driver, paint a grim picture of the dangers faced by everyone on the road, not just motorists but also pedestrians. In one case, a young man was fatally struck by a truck whilst...
