The league was been forced to accommodate the Zebras against Angola international friendly match played in South Africa yesterday, which forced the postponement of three domestic matches.
Only four Zebras players ply their trade outside the country, with the national team selectors relying heavily on domestic talent. Some of the local teams have been heavily affected by the Zebras’ schedule as compared to the rest.
Hence this has forced the Botswana Football League to postpone three of the eight games in round four of the season. Some teams have lost more players than others for the Zebras’ trip. Champions, Gaborone United (GU) contributed the highest number of players in the Zebras squad with eight while Orapa United and Security Systems are a joint second with three players per team.
The other teams have either contributed two or a player to the squad. Among the three games postponed by the BFL is GU’s clash against Police XI. Moyagoleele fans are itching to see their side back in action as the Reds have had a perfect start to the campaign. Morupule Wanderers versus Systems tie and Extension Gunners’ fixture against Orapa United have also been postponed.
Tomorrow, the rest of the games will continue as planned. Mogoditshane will be divided into two as Mogoditshane Fighters and BDF XI clash at the Molepolole Sports Complex. Jwaneng Galaxy travel to Francistown Sports Complex to face Eleven Angels. On Sunday afternoon, early title chasers, Township Rollers take on Nico United at the National Stadium. Masitaoka take on Holy Ghost at the Molepolole Sports Complex, while at the Otse Stadium, Prisons XI will welcome Sua Flamingoes. All five games will kick off at 4pm. The BFL is yet to communicate new dates for the postponed matches.
